My 4th Generation 8GB iPod Touch is getting really laggy. Even simply things. Like when I go to scroll through the pre-loaded pictures for my wallpaper, it lags... and same with web pages and sometimes when I type.. It's not a memory issue because I have almost 5GBs free still, and nothing running in the background.

Just whilst my Mac's in for repair, I'm having to use a PC. Trying to replicate the experience though, and I have to say that GNOME Do is a fantastic piece of software, far superior to Spotlight or even Quiksilver.
What OS are you running and version and how did you get it to look that good?

the only problem is that 50million in sales is nothing when an individual movie costs over 100million these days, but realistically, if they limit it to 5 ipods like computers, I don't see the big deal

I don't make a living with Photoshop, but it is a pretty serious side activity of mine, and as I said before, for what it is, Photogene is perfectly adequate for the general iPad user.
Unless they can add color profiles, different colorspaces other than RGB (LAB, CMYK, et al.), Photoshop for professional use will never get off the ground on a device like this.
Not to say you should be able to do a complete workflow from import to print on a tablet device, which, at least for now, seems completely unrealistic -- but I would think pros need to be able to import, see colors in a reasonable approximation for proofing or showing to clients, and maybe make spot edits based on client feedback.
I honestly wasn't too thrilled with Photoshop Express, which is why when I saw Photogene, I was immediately impressed with is features.

The battery life point is a good one. I hadn't thought of that (battery life has never affected me since I charge up whenever I get home). They could increase the battery life for the next revisions. So battery life and storage.
And I guess increased storage could be used as a USB key. I'd like to see them get rid of the dock and go back to the Shuffle plugging right into your USB port. (I think this used to be the case? Never owned a Shuffle.) So useful for file storage. In that case, basically any size Shuffle could be useful.
maybe a 3rd party company will design a cable/adaptor/thing that you can conveniently carry with the shuffle to use as a flash drive without the need of the dock
out of the box the 2gen shuffle capabilities as a flash drive are almost useless IMO

Is this well-veiled sarcasm? If not, you guys are ridiculous.
1) Google does not own the mapping database they use
2) Even if they did, there are multiple geographic/mapping data providers
3) None of them obtained their data by having employees drive around in vehicles... That's an absurd suggestion
Google absolutely owns their own map data. Only in the U.S. for now though.

The kicker? They obtained that data (or the vast majority of it) with street view cars. Nobody realized street view served a dual purpose: Pictures, but perhaps more importantly, the mapping data.

Appleinsider reports (http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=2251) on a research note by analyst Shaw Wu about a possible second version of the iPhone from Apple.
This second version would incoporate Apple's iChat software and may be dubbed "iChat mobile". According to Wu, Instant Messaging (rather than email) would be the focus of the device.
According to recent reports (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/11/20061115090741.shtml), one version of the iPhone has already been contracted out with target delivery in early 2007. This first version of the iPhone was described as a candy-bar form factor (artist rendition (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/09/20060913215342.shtml)).
Previous predictions of Shaw Wu are reviewed in our Guide pages (http://guides.macrumors.com/Shaw_Wu_%28Analyst%29).

Probably a very long shot, but does anybody have plans to go to either of the above stores on Friday?
I'm torn between the two towns, but if there is somebody from here going to either then I'd be happy to meet up and natter to pass the time.

Agreed, .mac had a solid, sensible, identifiable connotation. I wasn't a mac guy at the time, but it whenever I'd see it, conveyed that Apple was providing a decent service package for it's users. "me" just seemed needlessly self-absorbed, and conveys nothing useful. "Castle" sounds like somebody in marketing trying hard to be clever.
I wish they'd simplify, combine & condense all these services, give all their iTunes and new hardware customers an account, and give at least one or two services away free to get people using it in some capacity. ...find my iPhone/iPad, or contact/cal/limited storage push syncing... But just go back to calling the whole package ".mac" again. Clean, short, clear, promotes the brand without being obnoxious.

Then definitely steer cleer of the 60GB iPod.
Seriously, wanting a correlation between total song time and single-session battery life is a bit off IMO.
Everybody WANTS it....but reality says otherwise.
Agreed!!! I'd say, the max battery life required is the number of waking hours in a day. Of course, that assumes you listen for the entire day including, eating, showers, bathroom time...
I'd tend to think that 12 hours is enough with a recharge at night. Oooooooooh but what about people who travel or backpack for a long trip without a charging opportunity. Maybe they need more charge time? Does anyone listen to headphones while hiking? I'd want to keep a listen out for bears (Stephen Colbert has set me straight as to the danger of bears!). :D

Where's the poll option for "only an idiot would buy an iPhone two months before WWDC?"
Ok guys, you took on the "white is for girls only" guy, I get a shot at this one ;)
Here we go:
Two months before WWDC, you say? Are they going to start selling a new iPhone at WWDC? NO. Are they going to at least announce a new iPhone at WWDC? Well, if you read: THIS BLOG - NO.
So, what does WWDC have to do with a new iPhone? Nothing, in our collective knowledge here. You may think something different, but calling me an idiot simply because I don't live inside your brain is... not very smart, to put it mildly.
:D
Edit: Yep. I'm buying one. My 3G is on it's last legs, I like white better than black, and "5" is 5 or 6 months away at least (and not promising much of an upgrade from 4 either)

that's what I'm thinking... to support a iTunes cloud and new mobileme services, I would expect exabytes... Doesn't seem that big of an order.
See below.
Have you ever heard of deduplication?
Exactly - assuming Apple stores everything in HD + SD @ 2GB/hour of HD and 1GB/hour of SD, that's over 4 million hours of video (since 1PB = 1048567GB).
If iTunes goes 1080p, it would likely be stored as about 4-5GB/hour + SD, or about 2.5 million hours of video.
If (and it's a big if) this is open to iTunes subscribers, it will likely be only for content you buy off iTunes, so there will be no duplication.
