Why do you need to disable something you don't want to use? Can't you just not use it?

Are you afraid you might accidentally change your mind someday and need to prevent yourself from doing this in the future?

Also, many BBS's that I use offer me the chance to change the text-reply field size in my personal preferences. The window can be any size and the page looks just fine. Pretty much ANY text entry field has to be built into a page in such a way that changing the size just pushes things below it lower, just in case a browser draws it larger than planned. I can't think of any sites that don't work that way. This box I'm using on Macrumors right now follows that rule. If I were to drag it large nothing would "break." The stuff below it would just move down.

Can you give any examples of a page that fails this test? I can't think of any offhand.
I think he's talking about making it so people who use the web pages he designs can't resize the textareas (supposedly ruining his designs). IMHO this is a non-issue since when the user first sees the page they will se it as it should be, if they want to make a textarea bigger so they can type in it comfortably then it's their own choice.

I have a droid.(had iPhone on ATT but didnt get coverage at work/home) I payed an extra $100 to get the 1 year commitment in Nov 2009 just in case the CDMA iPhone came out a year later. Well it did come out a year later and my verizon contract was up. But I didnt get it because it was the same 8 month old phone and there is 0 chance I am going to get locked into a 2 year deal in january for a 8 month old phone that I wont be able to trade in until the June release 2.5 years later.

    I'm surprised they are surprised.

I agree with the notion that people should try to take steps to avoid risk, and that people can greatly reduce personal risk by making safer choices.

But this nugget of wisdom does not really touch on the substance of the issue arising in the OP, to wit - how much responsiblity does a rape victim carry? Or, to turn the question around, how much of the rape is not the rapist's fault?

What kind of twisted logic hears of a rape decides that looking "like a prostitute" is the salient feature of the case? What about the crazed deviant who committed the crime in the first place? Indeed, I think Gelfin's analogy is apt - if a smartly-dressed man is mugged, should we simply shrug our shoulders and say "well, he looked like he had a lot of money so he was asking for it. He should have been wearing something less ostentatious."

It's also, by the way, fallacious to assume that only young, attractive and/or scantily-clad women are raped. Such suppositions are the product of the same twisted male chauvinist perspective that suggests that looking "like a prostitute" means that women are "asking for it".
As I have suggested, we cannot really know the answers to these questions without first interviewing (or obtaining transcripts of interviews of) rapists. Most of us on this forum are not rapists (I hope), so making broad inferences on what goes through such a monster's mind is rather pointless. If we can obtain a body of information that clearly demonstrates that rapists are commonly motivated by the victims' appearance/attire, then we can lend credence to the statement quoted in the OP. Prior to obtaining such evidence, to suggest that dress codes will improve school childrens' safety is at best unsupportable and at worst ridiculous. Odd that these "libertarian" types are back at attempting to steal away our freedoms.

if so, for space reasons I would like it not to save them locally, is there an option to do so?

The ends don't justify the means torture is wrong period.

Would you support forcible medical testing on people if that forcible testing might save hundreds of thousands of lives in the future?

I tend to disagree with the saying of "ends don't justify the means".

As for your last example, medical testing is a completely different scenario. In the torture case, you are doing it to someone who is part of the terrorist/criminal activity. They are already part of a criminal act, they already broke the law and they are planning in breaking it again to kill/damage more people.

People with medical conditions haven't done anything wrong.

No, again, Apple can't stop them from selling the iPad. But it does mean that the iPads TJ Maxx is getting aren't being acquired directly from Apple. It means that they are buying them from a 3rd party. All Apple COULD do is terminate the 3rd party's Apple account (meaning that the 3rd party can no longer purchase directly from Apple) if they want to (if it was a large enough sale to TJ Maxx...80 iPads probably won't matter to Apple). An "Apple approved" retailer is one that has been authorized by Apple to buy Apple products directly from Apple, and thereby get all of the advertising perks, merchandising, etc from Apple.

    Thanks for clearing that up.

Most of the comments here I feel are due to the old saying!

"A BAD CRAFTSMAN ALWAYS BLAMES HIS TOOLS"

I know allot of people that do amazing stuff with FCP, Motion & Shake (myself included) :p

Mac Pros are profitable for Apple so are Pro Apps, they have no reason to drop them. I've worked on PPro CS5 and it's very good, but it also has issues.

I cut on FCP almost every day, all in HD and lots of formats and it still works very well and more importantly it's been reliable.

Avid is and has always been a very powerful tool, it's rock solid media management mean it's the no1 choice for movies and large TV shows, neither FCP or Premiere can compete with it on that level.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the new FCP offers.
